A fine and unusual George II walnut chest-on-stand, English, circa 1740. The piece features a richly figured walnut veneer with a warm, aged patina.
The upper section comprises three short drawers above three long graduated drawers, all retaining their original brass batwing handles and escutcheons. The base is fitted with a further three drawers—two flanking a larger central drawer - above a shaped apron and bracket feet.
One of the standout elements of this chest is the distinctive architectural cornice, composed of stacked block mouldings.
